Talks between GM and billionaire Dan Gilbert did not advance far, at least in part because the Renaissance Center -- first built by Ford Motor Co. -- requires substantial upgrades, including a costly overhaul of the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system, three sources told Automotive News and Crain's Detroit Business.
